I am working on a piece as part of my tennis series... I am looking at how can I interpret an image in multiple ways....anyway I noticed the comparison with my red tennis image and Warhol's 'Red Lenin' so another piece looks at Aboriginal artwork. I am using an image with bright colours and then the dot technique with some sticks and stuff....then I noticed one of my peers at uni.... I have been to exhibitions an now I noticed how this relates...It's the "unaustralian" works and the like by Lucas Grogan. I have included one of his images here too.... and the "mud map" or should I say process sketch? of my work... I felt compelled to create this when I the Laverty Collection of Indigenius Australian works at the Newcastle Regional Gallery. And this is what makes me question is their any original thought left in the world? Not only in art but even with literature etc...? Or am I just noticing it now? My work is simialar to Grogans work in the theory of Black mans art in a white mans world....I constantly think when I am painting away how sad it is for Aboriginals to try and find a place in this western world white men have created. I even think about history at school how I was taught that the Brits coming here was great as otherwise it was a savage land and they civilised it etc.....
I have even heard some english punk say we should be lucky it was them as otherwise it would of been some other culture who would of tried to fuck out the aborigines and they civilised them...anyway I was fairly annoyed and shocked about this....was he just repeating what he was taught? Giving it no thought......no original thought? What is an original thought? We create art so others can connect and question...but we try to connect to an audience. I was told to not make art too personal so others can interpret it their way so they can connect? Fuck that do what you enjoy! Sure we create art because we get something from it...i get a sense of relief....and i proudly admit I want to create fame and fortune from it..... i am still very shy with exhibiting as I feel I don't have the ability etc blah blah blah .....sorry drifting here....
original thought....... what was original thought and what could be original thought? I am sure any original thought could be tracked back through history so it no longer is an original thought.
